Online or In-Class? Which Writing Course Is Best?

Should You Do A Writing Course Online Or In-Class?

Sometimes, people ask us at Writers Write if it is better to do a course in-class or online.

Obviously, if you live far away from where classes are held, an online course is better for you. However, both approaches have inherent advantages and drawbacks.

Let’s have a look at the advantages and drawbacks of both.

Online Options

I’ve enjoyed online courses, but sometimes struggle to find the time to finish the course.

And I love being part of writing groups and societies. Most of the writing friends and mentors I’ve met, I have met at a writing course. I suppose the downside of this is that often personalities become bigger than principles.

In-class Options

For me creativity is like electricity, it carries its own energy that is amplified by a group of like-minded people. In class, we tend to bring out the best in each other.

Ultimately, I think you have to weigh up the advantages and drawbacks of each and make a decision based on your own needs.

For me, I imagine that a hybrid course would be ideal, where you get to network with other writers and have time to study and write on your own.

I think a course that combines online resources and an in-class sense of community will offer the best of both worlds. If you want to learn how to write a book, sign up for our online course or join our course in Johannesburg.

Thank you for this article. I think it depends of person. Someone prefer online courses, another – in-class. I would like to choose in-class variant because I like real life communication
