Book Review – The Cull

The Cull by Tony Park (MacMillan) ISBN: 9781770105836

Set across the blistering African landscape, The Cull is a fast-paced read, set in the unsavoury world of animal poaching.

Sonja Kurtz, once a ruthless mercenary, now leads a team of die-hard, fearless women in the fight against animal poachers. Hired by business tycoon Julianne Clyde-Smith Sonja is tasked with tracking and bringing down the mastermind behind the poaching syndicate.

Despite her best efforts, lives are lost, and soon Sonja and her team are under investigation for murder. Things don’t get any easier when the primary investigator is Hudson Brand, Sonja’s lover.

Left to clean up the mess with very little support, Sonja finds that she cannot trust anyone, for who knows who could be on the syndicate’s payroll. Putting both her life, and the life of her team on the line, Sonja works determinedly to uncover who is really pulling the strings. This reckless behaviour only leads to more trouble and devastating consequences.

The Cull paints a devastating picture of what is happening to wildlife in Africa, and tackles the ruthless nature of people.

I found the book enthralling and thought-provoking. A well-balanced novel of substance, I recommend The Cull for all lovers of wildlife and fast-paced thrillers.
